Huawei Y300-0151 Tips and Tricks (bonus: one click root)

Posted on Updated on

August 28th, 2013. I purchased the Huawei Y300-0150 (locked to Bell) for $99.99 online at 2 days before its VIP sale day.

On VIP sale day: this phone was selling for $69.99. I immediately called back their customer service to have the price adjusted and get back 30.00+tax. I could go to and have it price-match and get to save another $10.00 but i didn’t bother.

PART 1: One Click Root with Root Master (supports root to more than 2,500 phones)

The first thing to do with an Android phone is to root it and gain superuser access. That being said, there’s an easy Chinese windows application that let you to ROOT the HUAWEI Y300-0150 with the click of one button : ROOT MASTER (ROOT 大师)

– Just intalled the windows application once downloaded (.exe)

– Connect the usb cable to laptop, and connect your phone (choose settings > developper options > USB debugging), wait a bit for the computer to recognize your device (as per instructions on root master)

– click next, next.

– wait the huawei phone to reboot twice.

– then the screen on laptop says, root completed.

Now, you have the choice to either go with Titanium backup pro to freeze apps, or freeze apps this way:

settings > manage apps > scroll to “all apps” > select the app you want to freeze, e.g. bell crapware > hit “clear data”, “force stop”, then “disable”.

OR, you can go with the Titanium Backup Pro way to freeze the apps. CAUTION: You should not uninstall any apps because i don’t know the interactions between apps. Freezing undesired apps will suffice.

How to get Titanium Backup pro: look up for Lucky Patcher, install to your phone, and then select titanium backup, then select custom patch.

List of apps you can safely freeze or disable (note: certain apps can’t be disabled natively, but can still be frozen by titanium backup pro):

PART 2: Custom ROMs

IMPORTANT: no stable version of stable roms have been found at the time of writing that supports specifically Y300-0150. Roms that support Y300-000 or Y300-100 can’t be flashed on this phone. These roms are available only to chinese phones, either the china mobile or china unicom variant of this phone. You can always do it at your own risk, but you have being warned.

To maximize power saving:

1- select “power saving mode” app. It say that animation (and haptic feedback) will be off. A difference is seen when choosing to open/close other apps. There’s no more open/close or app swiching animation. It just pops the app content in front of you.

2- then manually:
– adjust screen brightness to a comfortable level
– open wifi or bluetooth mode (as needed)
– adjust screen time out to 30s (or keep it to 15s)
– enable backgound data so that gmail and some instant message/chat app can receive new notifications: settings – more – data usage – (tap physical menu button on lower right hand side/ the third physical button on the phone) – auto-sync data

3- go to “settings > turn on developper options > Animator duration scale > Animation off. Also, try to keep background process limit to 3 or 4. I can’t seem to get this to work somehow… it keeps going back to standard limit.

4- Either download Greenify or Juice defender ultimate (through aptoide).

5- Select a lighter theme, like the breeze theme, judging by its size. Arrange some not frequently used icon apps into ONE folder.

6- Have fun! Now your phone’s screen on should last about 5-8 hrs depending on what you do.

I usually go through 2 days no problem. And i would charge the phone on the third day/night.

I bought Y300 (Bell Prepaid) a few days ago, but it it only support English and French. Could you tell how to install Chinese on the phone?

You could install google pinyin keyboard to type in Chinese.
The phone can read Chinese characters (by default).
      You can install Chinese apps.

The only thing is that you can’t set the phone itself in chinese language, e.g. everything in the settings menu and all other menus will remain in English.

Do you think I can install different version rom into this phone. I find some roms for Y300-0000 and Y300-0100 in Huawei chinese website. They all use chinese to be default language. thank you.

I don’t think you can do it safely. They are Chinese carriers’ ROMs, which might cause perpetual damage to your phone.
If you insist, then you could go ahead, and keep me posted? thx.
